USSA Pro-Champ Rules Bulletin: 01-31

Pro Champ

It has come to our attention that builders and drivers may be misinterpreting the left-hand ski rule.

The rule is as follows:

SKI & SKI RUNNERS

  1. Left ski may be a Wahl Bros. brand “wide” ski, ( Wahl Bros part number 03-069) or may also be a wide bottom flat ski,(of any manufacture) with an adjustable, (non-cutting, non-carbide wear edge) which can be placed anywhere on the ski blank. This wide flat bottom ski may be of any commercial brand or constructed by the chassis builder. The intent of this ski and its placement is to limit the aggressiveness of the ski assembly for steering purposes. Custom built skis that do not meet the criteria or are an attempt to increase the aggressiveness of the ski performance will be reviewed for acceptance on a ski by ski basis.
  2. The left ski may not have more than 8 inches of carbide cutting edge.
  3. Right ski may be of any design if it meets current ISR standards and description in General Rules

It is important to know that the interpretation of this is the Left-Hand ski must be either a Wahl #03-069, or a wide flat ski of any manufacture or builder constructed.

Both indicate the term “may” with the intent that it is one or the other. The left-hand ski must either be a Wahl 303-069 or a flat ski of legal design. A standard narrow ski (IFS) will not be allowed.

The purpose of this is limiting the aggressiveness of the ski assembly for steering purposes.

While most competitors complied at Beausejour, some did not. This bulletin is to serve to inform all the proper determination of the rule.

This will be in effect at Ironwood, Eagle River, Weyauwega, Valcourt and Beausejour Spring event.

Thank you,
USSA Rules Committee.
